Regional spokesperson Superintendent Surki Sereñas also revealed that there were various peace initiatives such as 92 Peace Covenants Signing, 342 Peace Caravan, 459 Unity Walks and 389 Peace Dialogues were conducted region-wide as part of Secure and Fair Election (SAFE) 2016 which led to the surrender of 39 assorted guns including 2 high powered firearms and assorted ammunition from a known private armed group in Lanao del Norte. The AFP, PNP and COMELEC also conducted 131 tripartite Coordinating Conferences and Meetings aimed at ensuring honest, orderly and credible local and national elections.
Meanwhile, investigation on the Pryce Plaza ambush incident involving Marawi City Mayor Fahad Salic and his driver Cairoden Gunting resulted in the identification of suspects and filing of criminal charges against Edris Salindawan a.k.a "Abu Hanif", Aleem Jamal Salindawal a.k.a. "Abu Nusair", Salanduin Edris, Abdul Khair Musok Radia and 2 John Does for the 2 counts of frustrated murder at Cagayan de Oro City Prosecutor’s Office. Manhunt against the suspects is on-going.
COMELEC Regional Director Atty Wilfred Jay Balisado has earlier expressed satisfaction and gratitude to all government agencies and volunteer organizations for the invaluable support in bringing about a very peaceful election. Chief Superintendent Lyndel Desquitado has likewise given appropriate awards and commendations to deserving police officers.
In comparison to the 2007, 2010 and 2013 elections, Sereñas said "the 2016 election was better off in terms of peace and order considering the absence of major violent incident and failure of election which was prevalent in the 3 preceding elections." (PIO, PRO10)
