CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Personnel from the Malitbog Municipal Police Station, Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, apprehended a suspect for an alleged 'Kontra Bigay' violation, as stipulated under COMELEC Resolution No. 10946 Section 25, on October 29, 2023, at Crossing Sta. Ines, Malitbog, Bukidnon.
COMELEC Resolution No. 10946, Section 25, explicitly outlines the prohibition against the possession or delivery of coins, notes, money, cards, pay envelopes, bags, groceries, tokens, or anything of value, together with sample ballots or other campaign materials in favor of or against a candidate.
The suspect was apprehended during the conduct of a COMELEC checkpoint who was caught red-handed in possession of assorted bundles of money, each clipped with papers bearing the printed name of a Barangay Kagawad candidate, with a total value of ₱43,250.00.
The suspect is now under the custodial facility for proper disposition. A case for violation of section 261 of Comelec Omnibus Code was being prepared against the suspect.
Acting Regional Director of PRO10, PBGen Ricardo G Layug Jr., commended the operating unit for apprehending the suspect and said, “We are committed to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, and the enforcement of 'Kontra Bigay' is crucial in upholding the principles of fair and honest elections."
He then urged the public to report any unusual activities related to vote buying, vote selling, or any other election matters in their area of responsibility to the nearest police station. ###
